We are officially in the depths of winter and the forecast isn’t promising that we will see warm temps anytime soon. This is a great time to make some updates to your home. I mean, you’re already stuck indoors, and likely looking for something to do other than binge on Netflix and consume all the carbs. Here is a list of things you can do without having to prop doors open or freeze your fingers off in the garage. Plus, some home improvement projects can add value to your home, reduce the number of items on your spring cleaning to do list, and will help you to get your home ready to go on the market if you are looking to list it in the spring!
1) Interior Painting
I’m sure it’s no surprise that this one is on the list. Painting is one of the easiest ways to update the look of your home, and it can be fairly inexpensive pending the amount of painting that needs done. If your home isn’t in need of a fresh coat of paint, then now is also a great time to pull out those paint cans and do touch-ups.
Many of us wait to declutter our homes until spring, but why wait until warm temps are on the way? I would much rather be outside enjoying the fresh air. Since you’re already stuck inside it’s a great opportunity to go through those boxes that have been sitting in the basement, sort through closets for clothes to donate, and clear your space of items you no longer use.
3) Update Kitchen Hardware
The kitchen is the heart of the home. A simple task such as replacing the hardware can give your kitchen a whole new look. It is relatively inexpensive and can easily be done in an afternoon with a cup of coffee and a screwdriver.
4) Bathroom Updates
There are multiple reasons why bathroom projects are great to complete in the winter. It’s a relatively small space so the project can likely be completed in a weekend, and also won’t break the bank. Think updating fixtures and painting. Generally plumbing projects fall into the “Do Not Do This Yourself” category, but you can do the majority of the work yourself before you call in the plumber.
5) Laundry Room Updates
Ahhh, the laundry room. The room that everyone wants to look pretty, but no one wants to be in. All joking aside, in recent years the laundry room is an area where personality and functionality have become important to homeowners. Winter is a great time to give that space a facelift and make it more functional. Add shelves, paint or wallpaper, and organize the space so that doing laundry will feel like less of a chore.
It’s so easy to get cabin fever this time of year, but I hope you have been inspired to put down the remote and step away from the chip bowl – at least for a few hours.
