Ryan Mills is the owner of Mills Custom Homes. Ryan began his construction journey in high school as an assistant to a reputable trim carpenter in the Iowa City area. During college, he started a small siding business which quickly grew, as did his interest in general contracting. Over the years Ryan has refined his skills, fine-tuned his quality expectations, and solidified his niche in handcrafting custom features. Ryan utilizes his nearly 19 years in the construction industry and his passion of creating unique spaces to build homes that truly reflect the individual needs of each client.
Lindsey Mills joined Mills Custom Homes full-time in February of 2018 as the lead designer. She also focuses on office work, and creating 3D renderings. Lindsey has always had a love for home design, frequently contributing ideas for floor plans, kitchen layouts, and material selections. She has a knack for farmhouse, industrial, modern, and traditional design styles—often combining design styles for a balanced and unique look.
Our process is what sets us apart. We create a 3D rendering of your house, allowing you to “walk” through and see all your finishes and explore your floorpan to make sure everything looks perfect!
The first step to building your new home is finding a lot and a plan that work for you and your family. If you don’t have a lot we will work with you to find the perfect one. We have plans available that you can look through, or you can bring your own. You even have the ability to modify floor plans to best fit your family and lifestyle. Ryan and Lindsey will walk you through the process and answer any questions you have about building a home with Mills Custom Homes.
It’s time to design your new home! What sets Mills Custom Homes apart is we create a 3D rendering of your home, so you can “walk” through it before we start building. As selections are being made, Lindsey will update the 3D model so you know what your home will look like, and can make informed decisions about your choices. Ryan and Lindsey will also work with you and your budget to find alternative fixtures and elements you like, so you don’t need to break your vision or the bank.
Now that you have your house plan it’s time to sign the paperwork. You will receive a detailed budget at the time of signing, so you are aware of what the budget is for each item. At your pre-construction meeting, we will go over every detail of your home with you. Here we can make any additional changes to the floor plan. The last step before starting construction is the closing of your loan.
Your job of designing and finalizing is done, and we get to work! We will keep you informed throughout the entire construction process. If at any point you have questions or need to make changes, Ryan and Lindsey will work with you to ensure that changes, if possible, get made. Our craftsmanship shines through in the details. Unlike most home builders, we are actually custom builders. Ryan will hand craft elements for you, ensuring that it is unique and no one else has it.
Now for the moment you’ve been waiting for—move-in day! Moving into a home built just for you is pretty exciting. After closing, we will take you on a thorough walkthrough to ensure you know how to utilize all of the features of your new home.
